Combinations – Zorki 4 and Redscaled Film

    October 12, 2018 / No Comments

Shooting with the Red October theme is one thing, shooting a Soviet Zorki 4 camera with redscale film is a combination that doesn’t get any more red.  This ensures that the tool is red (aka Soviet), but also the result (aesthetically). The thought of this came through a suggestion from a friend on the yearly Red October theme that is shot by photographers that appreciate cameras made from former Soviet countries.  They do have a reputation of quality issues, but also a fanatical following.  This is sometimes attributed with the unique look the glass from the Soviet factories gives photographs. Redscale is a way of modifying how colour film is…

    Redscale Film – Reverse It!

    October 5, 2018 / No Comments

The apocalypse will eventually come one day and when it is photographed it will be in redscale.  Why wouldn’t it be?  Artists would be aiming at a realistic look, and nothing does that better than urban decay in red. This article is also part of the Red October theme being posted this month, where I am shooting with Soviet cameras and red related items.  It will be closely followed by an Combinations article where redscale film is used in a Soviet camera, a Zorki 4. Redscale is a method of modifying colour film so that it produces results which have a very strong red and yellow look to them. It does…

    24HourProject Sydney 2017 – The experience

    April 21, 2017 / 3 Comments

I enjoy photography a lot, and I love it when I can do something that helps people.  Combining the two together would be ideal, and this is where the 24HourProject gives me the vehicle to achieve this.  The 24HourProject is an event which has now been in play for about 5 years, to document different cities across the world, for every hour, on the same day.  This year it was on 1st April 2017, and according to the website covered 112 countries, about 840 cities with just under 4000 photographers. I came across the 24HourProject on social media last year after it had run, so I registered for this year’s…

    Icons of Sydney

    September 22, 2016 / 2 Comments

Each city in the world has its own image and style defined by its people and landmarks.  Each city has specific icons, which help define it to the rest of the world.  As photographers, we sometimes concentrate so much on capturing something so different that we forget to capture the defining beauty of our city. In this project I am aiming at capturing what tourists know but locals forget is sometimes there.  This will be an ongoing project for me, I suspect years in the making, but in the end, it will encompass all of the well-known Icons of Sydney, but will also include some lesser known ones which normally…
